Kenny Wayne Shepherd
« on: September 02, 2010, 03:53:44 PM »
Anyone on here into him? I read about him in Guitar Buyer and was sufficiently intrigued to check him out on youtube. Maybe I was not in the right frame of mind but I was distinctly unimpressed. Quite a weedy tone and nothing like the SRV-style referred to in the article*. I wasn't too impressed by his posturing either - it seems to me like he wants to be the centre of attention even when his singer is actually singing.

Like I said above - I may have been in a bad mood when watching. Maybe I'll take a look again in a few days time.

*there's lots of vids on him, I picked 2 at random.

Haven't heard anything much since his teen-prodigy days, but I always thought he sounded like SRV-Lite, with pretty poor songs.

At least Jonny Lang had (and has, presumably) an awesome singing voice.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

It is called the Kenny Wayne Shepherd band.
He sings backing vocals nowadays

I have his 2nd album and really like it.
This is one of the songs on it which sounds pretty much in the style of SRV to me:

He's a decent player but there are others I like more

Yeah - I know it's his band, just thought he was playing up to it too much. I'm far from a show off so will probably never understand that attitude.

He has some cracking guitars though. Strats all the way - very nice.
I think I hate being indecisive.

Kenny Wayne! I like him, have seen him few times. He started playing with SRV in mind, that was his role model. He is also a BB King protege. Just straight up blues with a heavy influence. I like Jonny Lang too, seen him few times. These guy are very popular here in the South, kind of a circuit they have been working on for a long time.
