Mercury Magnetics Transformers??

Anybody used them/tried them in amps???

I've heard lots of good comments about them, haven't fitted one in an amp yet though. Another transformer that's really good quality is the metroamp Dagnall clone, as highly regarded but doesn't cost as much (http://www.metroamp.com/store/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=12&products_id=321). I think I'll be going down that route when I upgrade the OT in my plexi this month...

I've used the Obsolete Electronics 50w and 100w plexi OTs and they not only sound great, but are very well constructed.  I used to run my 100w 'plexi' on full - the amp still sounded nice and tight in the bass end unlike the stock OT which was farting out on '7'.

I'm also used the OEI AC30 OT and that too was a very nice unit.  They ain't cheap, but the best never is.

london power do transformers as well, i've no experience with them but if kevin o'connor's reputation as a tone hound is to be upheld then i would say that they are probably pretty nice.

Thanks guys - I know London Power transformers are made by Hammond for him. I expect they're good, but I'm after a good vintage option. Thanks for the review of the OE transformers HTH! They're cheaper than mercury Magnetics too!

 Way overpriced!i tryed to fix a 2 channel 800, after hit by lightning at the studio,they sent me the wrong one,got the right one,and i also ordered another from a different company.Amp still wouldnt work,had to scr@pe it.it pretty much melted the board.I gotr the another 800 same model,a-bed the mm,and a hammond.Hammond sounded better,cost for it was 89$-American.Dont waste your money dude!Hang tight,im seeing my amo tech tonight,and will provide all the info for your awsome ass!You rock!Hang Tight,I'll get the info soon.Im working on the Warpig sound clips tonight aswell,with the amp on 8!EEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!

I have a OT, a PT and a choke  in my custom-made #1 amp ( see pictures below ).All Mercury Magnetics.  They seem very well built and the sound is very nice to my ears. I have an Obsolete Electronics JTM45 clone in my 5F6-A inspired and the MM are in a similar league.

Nice work on the amp - got any pictures of the guts? What is the amp based on (guessing Tweed Bassman) and what mods did you do?

It's not like a Bassman.
The preamp is pure Fender Blackface but the power amp is a single 6V6 in class A with no negative feedback loop and an alnico 15" speaker ( Jensen Q type ) by Weber.
It's all PTP wired with the best components. It was designed by me and custom built by the same guy who makes the amps for Carl Martin. I use these valves in it:

V1: 12AY7 GE
V2: ECC81 Mullard
V3: 6V6 Mazda
V4: RCA rectifier ....

Very, very nice amp.... I'll be recording some things for an album soon with it. I'll try to post some clips with my new Apaches...

Cool amp! What does that tweedrange knob do? Midrange?

The best amps usually have the fewest knobs. 8)

Yeah it's a passive mids control with a cool name LOL

HJM - I fitted the Metroamp Dagnall clone this week, I'm user #001 of the latest version of it (George has upgraded the steel and made the bolt configuration more accurate to an original Dagnall - cosmetically you can't really tell the difference now). I'll post a review up in another thread.
