NW(ah)D - the rig is absolutely complete!
« on: September 04, 2010, 07:46:22 PM »
First, and maybe last, new pedal day for me in quite a while.  I've been going over my rig in the last few months with a fine tooth-comb to get everything the absolute best for my ear.  So I've sold lots of stuff, bought a few things, and generally set stuff up.  The last piece of the jigsaw was my wah, which being a regular old (mid-nineties) Crybaby was letting the side down a bit.  Seeing what the rig would need, a true bypass wah was a must as the pedals following it prefer a direct sound with no buffers/loading.  That narrowed the list down, and a trip to Sounds Great today later and I have a BBE Wah  :D

Compared to the Crybaby, this thing is really musical and vocal.  Like having a proper effect!  The Q knob helps tune the sweep to taste, and it works really well.  Also, as it's true bypass, my whole board is now completely optimised.

So. the gigging rig is now:

* Bogner XTC Classic, Martamp Orion or Martamp JTM45/100
* Martamp "chunky" 2x12 cab with Celestion Golds
* PR Guitars SCR singlecut (regular tuning) or SGR doublecut (drop D)

And for effects:

* MXR Carbon Copy and Malekko Chicklet reverb in the loop
* BBE wah -> Xotic BB Preamp -> Malekko Chorus -> Korg DT-10 Tuner -> MXR EVH Phase 90 (script setting) -> Empress ParaEQ (for subtle EQ tweaks if required)

The sound in my head has now been reached.  It's been pretty static for some time, but I can't see this completed rig changing for a LONG while  :D

Looks awesome - if I get over early enough on the 16th I'd love to give it a go!
I think I hate being indecisive.

Cheers guys - I've been playing along with some Thin Lizzy tonight and wah'd myself out

This no-guitar-GAS thing made me muck about with pedals, but now that's done I'm not sure what else to do with my time!

Maybe I should join another band...

Great choice (I have one too ) thats two parts of the rig we have in common (although to be fair I don't use the orion for gigging).

Very vocal sweep  quite like BBE stuff

It's true I tell you!  I've downsized to 8 guitars, got the Bogner I always lusted after and easily resisted a very nice Gibson GoldTop in GuitarGuitar a week ago.

When you got THAT tone, there's no need to change it  :D

nice, i need a wah too (also have a crybaby o_O ). How much is the BBE? I know they're pretty cheap in the US (and there are often deals on them in e.g. GC), but any time I checked they were pretty dear here... :(

I paid £149, so it's not cheap.  However, it's cheaper than the Fulltone stuff which is £220 and £250(!)  :o

I was originally after a Budda wah, but the new Chinese made ones now that Peavey owns the brand have really shoddy build quality.  They're priced the same at £149ish, so the BBE got my cash.

Nope!  The Bogner XTC does all my gain levels across its three channels (with boosts) and the BB Preamp is just a backup in case I have to use a different amp......

Looks cool Dave. My Teese Wizard is giving me some grief at the minute and I need to get it sorted or get a new one so I may well check those out.

yeah, i know budda were bought out by peavey... didn't know about the shoddy build quality on the newer ones, but I'm not surprised, thanks for the heads-up.

And yeah, £149 for the BBE kind of puts me off when I see what you can get one for in the US- I might be biting my nose off to spite my face, though  Granted it's a lot less than the really boutique stuff, but £149 isn't exactly massed-produced prices either (or at least it shouldn't be)... :)
