Hello all!

I am a massive fan of mid-late 60's southern rock/blues/psychadelic rock/funk.

I love the vibe, tone and sounds of Hendrix, but also the sound of Frusciante in his early Chili Pepper days...

Currently I am playing a 2006 Fender Standard Am Strat - and was wondering how vast the difference is between my stock pickups and these lovely looking Mothers Milk pups?

Any advice?

Thanks,

Lawrence

I have a set of pickups based on MM in a late production 1969 Strat that I built. Also, the neck pickup in that guitar is a 1967 Fender Mustang pickup rewound by Tim that is The Bomb.

I also love southern rock, blues, funk and southern soul, and these pickups will get you as close as your playing will carry you to those sounds. They don't care for high gain much.

At a local music shop, we compared my Strat to a Fender CS Strat and everyone (except me*) agreed that my guitar sounded better.

*To me, the guitars sounded "different" rather than "better" but my guitar did sound more vintage.

Mother's Milks are about the same output as the Am Standard and both have A5 magnets, the difference in construction terms is that they have Plain Enamel wire, whereas the Am Standard has polysol.  Oh and the Am Standards are machine would with relatively cheap internal construction such as the bobbins, etc.  In terms of tone, MMs are perfect mid to late 60s pickups - think Hendrix, late 60s Harrison strat and your'e there.

From BKP's stock I would look at MM, the new unadvertised 62 set or the Irish Tours.  All will get you where you want, but the best way forward would be to email or phone BKP for recommendations.  I would go flat profile with the Am Standard.
BKPS: Milks, P90s, Apaches, Mississippi Queens, Mules, PG Blues, BG FP 50s, e.60s strat custom set

I have MM in my 2004 USA Strat with Rosewood board - don't think twice about them - they are THE perfect set of 60s single coils out there.

They give the perfect Hendrix, SRV tone, I got a metal plate on the bridge to give more bite - tone heaven through a valve amp!!
