What Pickups?
« on: December 18, 2005, 10:06:59 PM »
Hello, new to the site and I honestly don't know much about BKPs.

I am looking to replace three pickups in a HSH configuration on my Ibanez RG.

The bridge must be highoutput that sounds good with distortion/overdrive, the single I want to sound like a single coil and good both clean and dirty. The neck must be excellent clean but have the capabilities to go dirty also (think Seymour Duncan Jazz model) thanks for your time and opinions.

I play everything from Thrash Metal back down to Blues so it should be a VERY diverse set. Place more importance on the harder side (metal/hard rock).

that sounds like what i'd be after for an rg too...

i'd wait till some of the more experienced guys get here (i.e the ones who've tried them! ;) ) but to get this started, and to give you a much needed bump:

bridge: nailbomb or miracle man?

middle: irish tour?

neck: nailbomb, or something like a mule or vh2? probabyl mule or vh2, since you said "sd jazz-like"

anyone have any better ideas?

I have to say that the Nailbomb set takes some beating in a RG, and it is versatile. I use a trilogy single in the mid position. The other set that could be good is the Cold Sweat, I have one in a alder body RT and it sounds great too.

And welcome!

I would go with a Nailbomb in the bridge, Irish tour in the middle and a Nailbomb neck. You'll have a seriously versitle combination of pickups. Nailbombs sound great in RG's , check some of the Nailbomb clips in the players room, most of them are done on RG's.
