Warpig Calibrated Set vs Warpig/MQ combo

I've been looking at putting a set of BKP's in my Epi Les Paul for a couple of months.  Tim has recommended a Warpig set based on the fact that I play post-metal, tune to BEADF#B and the guitar is all mahogany with a rosewood fretboard.

I was wondering if anyone has any opinions or recommendations in regards to a Calibrated Warpig set vs a Warpig bridge/MQ neck combo.  I'm only asking out of curiousity.

I've done a search on the forum in regards to this combo and most posts about it seem to indicate that Tim needs to wind the MQ to match the Warpig, so I am aware that I will need to make sure I ask Tim to do this.

I would take the calibrated set. Warpig and MQ are not that easy to match, I read.

I wouldn't imagine a MQ would match well, but like you noted, there is the "Pig90" isn't there? Sure I've seen a few posts about people happy with them.

Hahaha, my other thread died and I'm still totally undecided on what to get. Think it's between the Miracle Man and War Pig though.

its (usually) slow brooding music with a strong ambience to it. bands like isis, cult of luna, rosetta and countless others. its cool. warning: not for everyone.

Hi,  I have a Warpig/MQ combination and have no problems with the balance between them.  If you order them together, BK will calibrate them.

I also have a Pig-90 (the prototype!).  I consider it much more of a bridge pickup, with a lot more bass thump - probably not what you want in a neck pickup!



I had them made with the raw nickel finish for both the Warpig and MQ

i've got my bridge warpigs coupled with a nice choice of neck pickups... :)
alnico WP + WP in an Ibanez RG
alnico WP + PiG90 in an Epiphone LP studio
ceramic WP + Painkiller in a wenge + ash necktrough
ceramic WP + Mississippi Queen in a Gibson LP studio

the neck WP is a powerful, thick and quite dark pickup that clears quite well anyway, the PiG90 is darker, dirtier and nastier, with a quite definite attack that immediately sinks into a pool of molten lead (and low frequencies), while the MQ is smooth but quite bright in my LP, with a lot of mids and a snappy attack that's great for cleans and leads... it complements very well the bridge WP (that's the ceramic one, and has got the most brutal sound you can get). it is OF COURSE much less hot than the WP, but it's ridiculously loud! if you like the "tone closed" sound on leads the MQ should't be the best choice around, but if you want versatility it's a real winner.

I think for simplicity's sake I'm going to go with the Calibrated War Pig set for now. Less messing around and less to worry about.

I had a calibrated C-Pig /Mississipipig set. I loved it, but I know others didn't... Did stoner well. But Marauder didn't like them (who likes just about all BKPs) and the dude who bought the guitar replaced them. Might be a bit of a Marmite combination. I can see a regular MQ being a good match to a pig though. I don't think you need to go as far as the Pig-90 to match it.
