Suggestions for 3 humbucker set
« on: October 23, 2010, 03:02:36 PM »
Good day all,

It it time to change up my sound again, and I could use some advice.  My main guitar is a Warmoth mutt; it has an alder body with maple top and a bolt-on Goncalo neck.  I can't recommend Goncalo highly enough as a neck wood; my ear is not sophisticated enough to tell you how it affects the sound, but it looks great and feels fantastic.  I play though a Marhsall TSL.  I'm not in a band, I just like to jam with friends and have a good time.  I like to play classic metal; Dio, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Accept, that sort of thing.  I also like to play blues/rock like Thin Lizzy and old Whitesnake.  I usually play in standard or down a half step; I use a different guitar for lower tuning.

I had the guitar routed for 3 humbuckers.  I like to get 3 distinct sounds from the pickups.  I'm basically a simply player; I like to just plug in and go.  I love humbucker pickups and never use coil tapping.  For the last few years I've been using 3 Dimarzio humbuckers; a Super Distortion at the bridge, a Paf Pro in the middle, and a Humbucker from Hell at the neck.  The set-up was good enough, but never really special.

I was thinking of two possible set-ups, but am open to all suggestions.  Idea 1: Holdy Diver bridge, Black Dog bridge model in the middle, Riff Raff or The Mule at the neck.  Idea 2: Painkiller bridge, Holy Diver middle, and Riff Raff neck.

Anyone have any ideas to share?  Thanks!

Holy Diver bridge, Mule or Black Dog middle, Mule neck. The Riff Raff will be to bright with the alder body.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.
