Weird Tube amp sounds...
« on: October 13, 2011, 10:39:21 AM »
Hey guys,
I've changed my tubes out at the beginning of this year and haven't gotten around to doing many gigs with it. But for some reason it makes this sorta crackly sound on startup, then the whole thing buzzes like a fridge (and talks in maths <hint>)
Then after a couple of minutes it stops buzzing and does an occasional gas igniting sound, like a flag being waved sorta.
Do I just need new tubes?

It may be the tubes but there could be other problems. If you have any spare tubes of the specified type (preamp ECC83/12AX7, power amp 6L6 for the Blues Deluxe) try substituting the preamp tubes one for one and check whether the problem persists. If it does then change the power tubes and have the bias checked by a tech. If the problem still persists then the amp needs a tech check.

Cheers Stephan
