BKP Bass Pickups
« on: August 19, 2007, 04:26:01 PM »
Hello all, I too am new and have a bass question, so this seemed like a sensible thread to post in.

What are people's experiences with BK bass pickups? Everyone I've spoken to raves about their guitar pups, but I've not met anyone with a bass set.

I've got a Mex Fender jazz and want to upgrade the pickups in it, I particularly like Colin Edwin (Porcupine Tree), John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) and Troy Sanders (Mastodon)'s bass tones  - lots of smooth round bottom end but still with clarity, focused on the lower mids by the sound of it.

Hi, I have a BK Precision pickup in a 66 P-Bass and it makes it sound just like my old 62.  They have great bottom end but with the same sort of clarity that the regular pickups bring.

I am jsut getting a Jazz bass made and I am putting BK's onto that.  Give BK a call or email because you can get different winds I think (my P-Bass was a slightly hot 62 wind).

Hi,

I'm new here, but know BKP since years, as my guitarist use a gorgeous pair of The Mules in his Les Paul.

I have a new Fender Jaguar Bass CIJ, with a poor pair of Jazz Bass Pickups. The E string sounds a lot louder than other ones. Many people in French forums advise about the Fender Custom Shop 60 pickups for this bass, but I was wondering of what could I get from BKP set.

Even if this bass have an onboard preamp, this one is bypassable, and I use it mainly in passive mode, both in series or parallel, for old school tones. Don't have yet the appropriate amp, but I'm thinking about Hiwatt or Sound City things.

Even if I don't want to reproduce a given sound, I like Pink Floyd bass tones from the 70's. I know Waters was mainly playing a P-Bass ... not good start !

Do you think some BKP pickup could fit my tastes on that Jaguar Bass? What would it bring more than Fender Custom Shop pickups?

I have a jazz bass with BK's and they sound great.  They would certainly help you with the tone.  Guy Pratt (who played bass with Pink Floyd after Roger Waters left), uses a jazz bass as his main bass, so you will be able to get a lot of the Floyd sounds.
