Pickup angle
« on: December 01, 2010, 10:28:38 AM »
Just installed bkp hd in my jackson rr1t, my pickup frame has no angel so the distance from the screw side to the strings are much longer than from the slug side, i guess it will do pretty much for the sound?
i found some old pickup frames here at home but i have bad luck with the screw holes :(

when you have my kind of problem do you often adjust the pickup nearer to the strings than usual?

You could try using some foam under the pickup to help with the angle?

one of the times where a 3 point mounting system would be good, as you could pivot the pickup.
You could do with a tapered wedge to go under the flat ring really to help to keep the pickup parallel to the strings

It's the same on my SG, but it's never bothered me. The guitar sounds great the way it is.

I hate it when pickups don't sit parallel with the strings!  I wish a three-screw mounting system, like Jonathan mentioned, was standard!

I sometimes file the bottom of a mounting ring on sandpaper to change the angle - obviously it's much easier with a fairly tall ring.

If all else fails, you could try raising the screw polepieces a little, to compensate for the angle.  But I don't know if it really affects the sound much, to be honest.
