Need help narrowing down to one bridge pickup.
« on: December 08, 2010, 09:48:22 AM »
Hey everyone,

I'm getting ready to order a bridge pickup for my upcoming BRJ custom. I currently have a trilogy suite bridge pickup that I'll be using in the neck (s/h). I can also return this , as it's never been used. I've been contemplating on pairing something up with the Sinner, as I've been reading that it's a better pickup than the trilogy suite.

The guitar will be a full mahogany neck through.

I'm between the Aftermath, Coldsweat, Rebel Yell, or Painkiller at this point.

I like to play different styles of metal, but some bands in particular are:

Soilwork, Born of Osiris, Veil of Maya, SikTh, In Flames, The faceless

What I was thinking as well.

The MM and the Aftermath would've been my first choices on it. I'm tempted to say the Miracle Man for your choice to be honest, cause the Aftermath is good and all, but for something like Soilwork and In Flames I think you could get away with the Miracle Man (and saving some money)

Having just taken delivery of an all-mahogany BRJ with an Aftermath I can vouch for the fact that it's an awesome combination for the styles you've mentioned.

The Trilogy bridge should work well in the neck position, it's 0.5kΩ hotter than the Sinner neck, so should be a very similar affair.

Just as I suspected!

Does the trilogy suite have that typical single coil twang, or can I learn more towards jazzy(opposed to bluesy)? Perhaps i'd be better suited with a sinner?

Sorry, should have been clearer - the TS bridge would act as a slightly overwound Sinner neck when put in the neck position. You'll get a fat and vocal lead sound, truly awesome to behold. It's certainly not twangy, and can jazz it up rather well if you back off the tone knob.

My first thought was Miracle Man as well but if Nolly says Aftermath in that guitar I'd be inclined to go that way. I'd also stick to the Trilogy Suite and I'm surprised you've come to the conclusion that the Sinner is a better pickup anyway as the Trilogy Suite usually gets very positive reviews and seems to be far more widely used than Sinners.
