i probably wont be upgrading my amp anytime soon as ill only be playing in my room. Im in uni now and have 40 hour weeks not including coursework so it doesnt look like ill be doing any gigging or joining any bands so i wont be buying any higher wattage tube amps as they will be too loud for my room.

as for my guitar, the only step up im looking at is a full fledged prs which will cost an excess of 2000 pounds. haha so a 200 pound pickup swap doesnt look too expensive compared to that

You can get some very nice low wattage tube amps that in my opinion would be an improvement over your HT-5, and that's the kind of thing us here on the forum would recommend e.g.

Orange Tiny Terror
Hayden Mofo
MJW Roadstar (he's a UK custom amp builder)
A vintage Fender Deluxe
Mesa Transatlantic
Cornell Plexi 7
etc
etc
etc

Always remember too, that a £200 pickup swap won't turn a £400 guitar into a £2000 one.  I always refer to pickups as the "salt and pepper" on a meal.  It won't turn a salad into a steak, but it would make a steak taste a bit nicer  ;)

good hearted posts here me thinks.changing pups if your not short of money is a good idea firstly 'cause it can
improve your sound but also fiddling in your hobby is all part of it;a diiferent aspect of it when you're fed up of practiscing.good luck

I've got a Rebel Yell set in a Les Paul, and also a Nailbomb in another LP, and whilst I love both I would probably say go for the Rebel Yells - sounds like what you are after.  Less aggressive than the Nailbomb but more than enough balls to them to really rock (or metal...with the right amp of course).
TS set - RY neck - ABomb bridge x2 - MQ neck - MMan bridge - MMilk neck - Sinner bridge - PDriver bridge - 10th Anniversary set - VHII bridge
