Coil Splitting Nailbomb
« on: February 04, 2011, 03:20:34 AM »
Hi everybody  :),

Does anybody have any experience with coil splitting Bare Knuckle Humbuckers, namely Nailbombs? I'm looking at either a HSS set with a Nailbomb and Trilogies, or a HSH set with 2 Nailbombs and a Trilogy in the middle. Can I get nice single coil tones from the split Nailbomb in the neck, that are comparable to the Trilogy neck?

Thanks!

Nailbombs split great, how they compare to the Trilogys I can't say, as I have not heard the two together, I should imagine that they would work well together.

I had my Nailbombs split with a Schaller Megaswitch in a Charvel strat - they were great.

There's a clip that I did somwhere on here - I'll post it if I find it.

Mark.

Edit - found it.

Wow that is an amazing tone, and excellent playing as well! PDT_015 I'm amazed by how much it sounds like a Strat single coil. I think you may have made up my mind. Some background so you know where I'm coming from I'm having a Strat put together and I'm thinking about an HSH setup with a five way switch and a button that would give five more pickup combinations. I just need a neck humbucker that is convincing split so I can get various humbucker/single coil combinations. Basically I'm looking to have an insanely versatile guitar that can do just about anything  :D

You're very kind, thanks.

My Charvel was just the 2 NBs, with the Schaller Megaswitch.  It was a brilliant set up, but for some reason I decided that I needed a change, and wired them with a tele 3 way switch just as a neck, both, bridge set up, but with a coil split toggle switch.  And that sounded rubbish!

After that I put a Trilogy suite in the Charvel, and I don't like it anywhere as much as the NBs!

Gonna have to put it back how if was...

Do you know if the Schaller Megaswitch works with an S-1 Switching setup?

I recently built a Warmoth guitar with a Nailbomb in the bridge, a Duncan Antiquity Surf 2 in the middle position and a Lollar P90 in the neck. I had no intention of ever splitting the Nailbomb, but I set up my switching for it anyway.

I am so blown away with this PUP overall, but specifically to your question, I think it sounds better than the Antiquity. I have never heard a HB split this nicely.
