The 24 scale length of the Jaguar
« on: April 10, 2011, 02:49:40 PM »
I never had the opportunity to try one and I was wondering how much would the shorter scale length of the Jaguar affect playability, tone, etc; if you compare it to a "regular" 25,5 fender scale length.

I heard that shortening the string length would reduce the string vibration – and sustain. But I do not pay to much attention to this, as a the Gibson Les Paul (24,75) is a sustain monster.

As for the strings, I usually play a regular light gauge (.10-.46) on my stratocaster. So what would be the equivalent to get the same tension on the 24 scale length of the jaguar ?.

Thanks for your help guys ! :D

Try 11s for better playing on a Jag - and if you play drop D swap the low E to a 0.050" or 0.052"

I'd put 11's on it.

Don't worry about it feeling stiff. Fatter strings allow lower action plus the Jag has a vibrato. That will all help for a lighter feel.

I really like Jags - but I have tiny hands and a fetish for surf guitar.  Still 11s really are the only strings, no?
