The neck feels much better since I rubbed it down, first I dulled the nitro with wire wool then recently I just sanded the Nitro off at the back of the lower frets.  I'll probably take it further at somepoint when I'm bored.  The only problem with the sanding is it exposes the halo of clear coat between the bare wood and the Nitro, so it got a light line around the sanded area. But I'm not too fussy, it's a definite keeper guitar and I will abuse it as I see fit.  It's definitely more of a feel thing rather than aesthetic, and it does feel better than the original glossy nitro.

Now that is precisely how a guitar should look. Ash tele, maple neck. A timeless classic.

Just don't stand in front of the mirror pretending to be Bruce Springsteen though.

Edit: ferrule lady reminds me of someone I know.

I decided yesterday to start taking the finish down on the back of my Baja neck. Before I knew it I had matted the finish down and then got carried away and went down to the wood. It feels great! Need to coat it with some oil though.

As far as quality goes how do Allparts compare against Warmoth? I'm undecided between the two.

Good work Ian.  I've not bothered oiling mine but I should do one coat to seal it really.

Warmoth or Allparts, hard to compare really, one of my necks was a Nitro finished maple Tele neck and the other one an unfinished rosewood strat neck.  They are both nice solid chunky bits of wood.  Both had well seated frets and fit like a glove into their respective bodies.

At a push I's say the warmoth is ever so slightly nicer.  The trouble with allparts is there prices have shot up and you get what you are given whereas the costomer interface and options with Warmoth are excellent and you can see the neck you are buying.  And Allparts are always out of stock while they are weeks on a boat from Japan.

But then again I prefer the Allparts FAT profile to the Warmoth Boat.  Ah decisions, decisions....

Cheers Tom. I'm leaning towards Warmoth at the moment, mainly due to the design and layout of their website. So much slicker and easier to use. I also don't like it that nearly everything I look at on allparts is out of stock!

Any instant will do.  A spoon of it in a cup and a drop of water.  Smooth to a paste and rub on your neck.
