« on: March 24, 2011, 11:49:26 PM »
Hey guys I was wondering if You guys could recommend a humbucker to replace my fender diamond back pup. I want something more on the highs and a little more output nothing too extremes. I has to be rather versatile..I play mostly ro k and alternative. Alright leave you suggestions here! I wanna know!

P.s I heard the mule is really sick.

I have a Crawler in my swampashstrat, which has quite some oompph, but is vintagesounding, fat, warm, balanced, with a nice growl. Big mids and the topend is just right for me, no icepick and therefore great for soloing, but could be too warm for you. Look at VHII's for some extra high's. This pickup has a nice vintage, open very vocal tone, but enough balls to rock out. If you want something more contemporary with extra output, but still organic sounding and usefull from clean to heavy rock/metal, look at the alnico Nailbomb.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

VHII should sit well and they also have a great single coil sound when spilt.

I love the VHII in my American Strat. It sounds good clean, dirty and everywhere in between. It's such a musical, sweet sounding pickup, but it can give the amp a fair kick too.
Bare Knuckles owned: Mules, VHII, Rebel Yells, BKP-91, Strat 63 set, Riff Raffs.

I'd recommend the VHII too, I have it with a pair of Mother's Milks in a rosewood necked 64 strat and it works great.
So many pickups, so little time

I have a coldsweat bridge and trilogy suites in neck and middle.

For me the coldsweat in the neck is probably the best pickup and sound I have ever heard from a strat. It is extremely woody and organic and kicks out fantastic lead breaks. Very much like santana but a bit heavier.

I have a coil spliter and this reduces the thickness of the tone if I want to due some blues noodling.

I know it can be confusing as there are so many pickups on here but if I got another strat I would not hesitate to put a coldsweat in the bridge!

I have a 93 USA Standard Strat with a Crawler/Irish Tour/Irish Tour setup in it and it's a really versatile guitar.

It's wired to auto split the Crawler in position 2, so still has the strat quack and it also has a push/pull pot to split the Crawler. As it's quite a hot pickup, it splits to about a 7k output so it pulls off a really convincing single coil voice too.
