7 String Bridge Pickup
« on: April 11, 2011, 02:57:24 PM »
Hi guys, i need an advice on a bridge pickup for my RG7321.
A bit dull sounding instrument, but nice for the price...i'm currently using a Crunch Lab, i like how it sounds huge but tight at the same time, but i don't like how it sounds ''airy'' and dark, just like it lacks some frequencies, it gives me the impression of a huge but not cutting sound.
I'm not into extreme tightness or extremely dry ''djenty'' sounds ,i just  want something to overall brighten up the sound with less airy character, while retaining a big-but-tight low end!
if it helps, i don't care for versatily, mine is a metal-only axe.
will a covered humbucker fit? i'd really like a burnt chrome cover!
thanks for the help!

Roberto.

Hi Roberto, welcome!
I think you would enjoy a ceramic Nailbomb.
The squarer corners of the covers generally mean a small amount of routing is required if you're trying to drop them into fairly tight-fitting Dimarzio-style routes. However, I've seen many owners of Ibanez 7-strings with covered pickups installed, so I would assume the work needed is minimal.

I would personally say miracle man.

i cant speak on the ceramic nailbomb as i have never tried one.

And generally ive found covered bkps fit into ibanez direct mount routes with no problem at all

thx for the advice nolly, i was personally already thinking about a c-bomb, and knowing you're really competent about bkp and serious tone ( i lurk a lot of sites in which you're active, lol), i'll go for that one! thanks!

PS: IIRC it was you that had a rash with the breathtaking finish? he's my luthier, really nice guy to deal with and he builds awesome guitars! i  hope to be able to order one in the near future!

The MM has huge low mids, as has the ceramic Nailbomb. Both have quite some treble, great to clear up lower tunings. The MM looks like it is designed for guitars with glued-necks or heavy guitar that lack mids. Considering your guitar I think the C-Bomb is the first to call.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.
