D-Sonic 7 lover seeks BKP

Hi everyone!
About to make the move to the BKP camp after using DImarzio pickups for years... i play Ibanez 7 string guitars, 9-56 gauge strings, mostly tuned to drop A. Usually through a Peavey Triple XXX, but this year i will be moving on to an Axe FX!

anyway, i play rhythm and lead guitar in my band ARC (www.myspace.com/officialarc ) . we are a progressive instrumental band, and we have 3 guitar players, so a LOT of clarity is needed! We do a lot of big chording and tight, stoccato stuff on the low notes.

My favorite rhythm tones are Meshuggah (None EP and Destroy, Erase, Improve, and Fred's Sol Niger Within album), Periphery, and King's X (Dogman).

So far my favorite pickup is the Dimarzio D Sonic; i love the clarity, the tightness, the output level, and the nice chirpy pick attack i can get, almost like the attack a single coil has, LOVE IT! I really enjoy a big clicky picking sound. I also find that pickup splits REALLY well and can get nice and Tele-ish.

So far i'm thinking Aftermath set.... but what do you think?

The Aftermath would work well for the tone you are describing as you would get a tight, powerful tone due to having 3 custom size ceramic magnets built into the pickup. Having two rows of screws will help you with the clarity and tone definition you are looking for while playing the heaviest of riffs. It is also a great pickup for when you are drop tuning.

I used the D-sonic for a while too and have to say it is a very peculiar and distinct sounding pickup. Anything very tight from BKP will be usable for your band, but they won't sound "like a D-Sonic from BKP". Please be aware of that.

If you praise it, why not just stick with the D-Sonic?

hahaha well, you know how it is... the curse of the gear head.

"oh wow! This is perfect!...... i wonder if this one would be MORE perfect?"

but yeah, the D Sonic is a very unique pickup. Tends to be a love it or leave it design for most people. I guess if i could complain about anything, it could maybe be a little thicker. But i think its "lean" sound is what makes it so precise-sounding, which is why i think i would like the Aftermath.

Does the AM have a nice clicky pick attack?

Ahh see theres a few things i love & hate about both

The Aftermath its the pick attack and i wish it was a bit more saturated.

The replacement is just too all out brutal i kinda over spec'd it and its just a one trick pony!

The aftermath is definitely the more versatile and does split down better and i am actually considering going back and saving the replacement for an all out guitar that i'll use in low tunings only

well cool beans, i think it sounds like the Aftermath is for me :) i'll post my thoughts when i get 'em.
