Rebel Yells first gig.

First gig with new band last night and first with the Rebels in my Firebird Studio. I had some concerns about the Rebels when I first got them because they seemed so toppy. I've spent a lot of time tinkering with the height and have decided that I prefer both pickups set low. Also, when my amp is cranked the top end smooths out a lot. Last night my guitar sound was awesome. The band went down really well and a LOT of guys wanted to talk about the sound I was getting.

The Cornford amp is a big help of course but I told everyone that Bare Knuckles are the most important ingredient.

I've spent a long time gigging with an old SG with a JB in the bridge and always been generally happy with my sound but the Firebird/RYs is on another level. Cuts in the mix like the JB but with SO much more clarity. Chords are huge and the definition on the low end is astonishing. Also, I've NEVER had a neck pickup I've liked but last night I spent a lot of time soloing on the neck pickup or switching between neck and bridge. I play classic rock and blues and the RYs are right on the money.

sounds great as im moving toward a pair of rebel yell for my 7 string rg 7321..

i personally want to know about the bass response and riff stuff.

How do you think the RYs would sound in a Strat? I'm looking to get some new humbuckers for my Strat, I'm worried they would be too bright, but they sound really cool.

Well I have one in the bridge of my Ibanez S570b, which is quite the bright guitar too and I have to say that it is at times a bit critical. It is very dependant on the amp you use. Like a 6505 would have little problem, but I had to fit my Orange Tiny Terror with two JJ Tubes (pretty dark) for the bass to get a certain fatness I need for heavier rock / metal riffing. It is possible as the bass in RYs is great and tight, but...well it depends on the Amp and the style you wanne play. Then again if it is a HSS strat 250k pots might easily clear that out.

The RYs don't have a lot of low end. To me this is a good thing because I don't like too much low end thump. The advantage is that riffs played on the A and low E strings are really clear. We played Walk this Way the other night and the riff was crystal clear. The 498T that was previously in the bridge sounded really muddy and unfocussed by comparison. The heavier sounding samples give a good indication of how the low end behaves.

RYs in a Strat ? Providing it's a dark guitar you shouldn't have a problem but I'm sure someone else on this forum must have tried this by now.

will it sound differently in basswood body guitars?
