Good soldering iron workstation? 50 euros budget...
« on: May 17, 2011, 09:57:13 PM »
I'm wanting a good soldering iron workstation for my projects... From guitar work to pedals. It needs to be able to nicely melt the solder at the back of pots, but I should be able to take it down a bit for PCB work for instance... you get the picture.

I'd be useful if it were available on Amazon as Luxembourg suffers from a lack of, well, everything.  :D

Any advise..? I've read about several Weller models but none are on amazon and therefore available to me.

Thanks!

get an Antex 18w iron for pedal/amp wiring, then buy a cheap 50w iron for the back of pots - thats all I do as I rarely need a big iron.

I found a 48W soldering station from HQ, called HQ solder/20 on amazon, that has temperature control feature. Quite good when you don't have to work with lead free solder :)

I use an antex 18w from maplins

It cost about £9

It has served me well for amps, pedals & even the back of pots but i use silver solder on everything so it has a lower melting point

Yeah man, still in Lux, been a year now. I guess I could order this one (this merchant does ship to Luxembourg) but I'm still hoping to find a Weller or especially Hakko somewhere..!

Aye I used to use the Maplin ones in my student days, but I've badly abused them and now I just want one that'll last me a LOOOONG time and not make soldering a chore.

Aye definitely will. I'm not going cheap on this; I need something good.

Do you know where I could get the Weller WLC100 in EU..? I can't seem to find a place where to order it... :(

HA! Amazon.co.uk eventually got ONE InStock WellerWHS40 which I got as quick as I could. I tried it out today and those damn cables stopped giving me grief. Loving it!
