Which 7 String?
« on: June 15, 2011, 07:50:14 PM »
Hi all!

I'm a bit stuck!  I'm after buying a 7 String guitar and probably want to make it one of these Schecters:

http://www.schecterguitars.com/Products/Guitar/Omen-7.aspx

http://www.schecterguitars.com/Products/Guitar/Omen-Extreme-7.aspx

http://www.schecterguitars.com/International/Products/Guitar/Demon-7.aspx

Basically the other guitarist is leaving our band so I'm going to play the 7 string bits in future.  I'll probably end up changing the pickups on whatever I buy eventually.

The first one is what the other chap uses atm so I think it would be a bit weird to get that one, although I do like it.

The second one (extreme lol) is great, and this is going to seem picky but I can only find it in that red colour, and I really want the 'black see through' so I'm a bit hesitant on it.

I like the look of the third one but am a bit unsure as I've never been into active pickups and I'm not sure what work would be involved in putting in passives and if thats even possible in those cutouts?

Which would you buy and why? Alternatively, what guitar out there (for a similar price of 280/400quid) would you buy instead?

Thanks very much,

Alex

If you're in the US, you might want to check out Agile guitars (the retailer is Rondo Music)

What tuning are you at? The Schecters have a longer scale, so can cope with lower tunings, as you can use thinner strings, and supposedly help with clarity. If you're at B standard or near to it, 25.5 will definitely be fine. Also, what kind of necks do you like? Schecters don't have tiny necks, so that may be an issue...

Is there a chance you could go and try out a bunch of guitars? I would recommend doing that, just to get a feel for what is out there.

Oh, go for an RG7620: http://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=24344.15
