To cover, or not to cover?

OK, so if I order a set of Mules for my LP Standard, do I go for covers or not?

Apart from the looks, are there any other pros/cons for covers vs no covers???

I think tim adjusts the winding to minimise the difference in tone, but i think i saw him say in another thread that uncovered pickups are still a little treblier.

Covers will soften the treble slightly. I think the Mules sound better with covers personally.

If you're not sure, you could always get em without covers, then if you want to later on, you can send em back to be covered and potted I think.

Sounds like I'd prefer them with covers - I don't like too much treble.

Cheers!

Good point.

Has anyone tried uncovered Mules?  Are they wound differently to compensate?

Generally (IMO) uncovered pick-ups have a bit more open tone.
It's like they respond slightly more compared to covered pick-ups.

I've tested both Fralins and TomHolmes with covers, and then taken the covers off.

Anyway, I use several covered pick-ups and they sound great (of course).
I guess Tim has done something to add up for the loss of treble in covered pups. My HoldyDivers are with aged covers, and sounds awesome.
I would not change a bit on these.
