Cold Sweat neck in the bridge position
« on: June 15, 2011, 04:05:14 PM »
About a year ago I bought a Nailbomb bridge and Cold Sweat neck for a guitar with a Floyd Rose, so the Nailbomb is F-spaced. At the start of the year I had the guys at a local guitar shop swap them into a Tanglewood Les Paul copy. I've been very happy with the sound, but only just now noticed that they made a mistake. The pole screws on the neck pickup don't line up with the strings, but they do at the bridge. I measured them and the neck is 53mm spacing and the bridge is 50mm.

So my pickups are in the wrong place.

The thing is, to me this actually sounds pretty good, but now I'm wondering what they were supposed to sound like. So before a ask them to swap them around, does anyone have any idea what difference there will be?

Hmmm, interesting.  The bridge pickup is normally wound hotter to compensate for the smaller amplitude of the strings in that position.   I guess you like a "hot" neck pickup then.  If you move it to the bridge it will definitely sound weaker, and the tone should also improve given that I'm sure Tim has spent a lot of time finetuning the wind and other parameters to give the best result in the bridge.

T^he CS neck position pickup is a fine PAF style pickup and not to be underestimated - In some ways it would be similar to an underwound Black Dog - still very toneful.

So if i put them the "right" way around, it would sound hotter, tighter, etc?

I've actually been wanting to try out some of the lower outputs, so this accident kinda helps.

I might go for this at some point actually, especially if BKP can get the finnish to match (they've become slightly self-battleworn)

do you mean the Cold Sweat neck is modern polysol wire?
