Suggest Clean to Scream set for me!!!
« on: June 18, 2011, 11:06:21 AM »
Hello!!!
I own a Parker Nitefly M and its my only guitar. I need it to be as versatile as possible.
I am looking for a hi gain bridge humbucker for heavy riffs, solos and crazy pinch harmonics.
Need smooth neck pickup for shredding and overdriven classic rock like Gilmour,  Knopfler, Petrucci.

However, i also need the neck pickup to have gorgeous , chiming cleans in both humbucker and single coil mode.
Even though this is a dual hum/hum guitar, i am trying to come close to the strat neck/middle clean tone which i think is not possible given the distance of the coils and construction of the guitar. However i was wondering if i were to wire the single coils closest to the neck on both positions, i might be able to come closer than the usual outer coil combo.
Any thoughts on this ?

So which BK's do i go for ?
From my research:

Miracle Man (bridge) / VH2 or Cold Sweat (neck)

I read the VH2 has gorgeous cleans in humbucker and single coil mode. How does the VH2 sound overdriven ?
Compare with Cold Sweat please.

Open to all suggestions, Bare Knuckle only.

Currently i have Duncan Distortion/Jazz in my guitar. They sound good, i want better cleans, better pinch harmonics.......

Please suggest! :)
Thanks
Faisal

The MM and the VHII are different worlds. The first ceramic and very suitable for modern styles/shredding. Not the best for cleans. The VHII I'm planning to put in my strat. As the name says it nails those early  brown Van Halen-tones. Compared to the MM it has moderate output, but lots of people stated here it has a very nice vocal quality. Check out the alnico Nailbomb too, which is great for shredding, but cleans up nice. It has a more organic tone then the MM. For the neck the CS is a good choiche. Lots of forummembers pick this one for fluid leads a la Petrucci.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

I'd say A-Nailbomb and a Cold Sweat neck, especially if you want to split.

The best wiring method for your neck/middle SC sound would have to be the Petrucci wiring.

Using this switch: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessories/dimarzio-three-position-on-on-on-4pdt-pickup-selector-switch?CJAID=10381297&CJPID=1816411

with this wiring : http://www.dimarzio.com/sites/default/files/diagrams/2h1v1t_1ep1111JPEB2009.pdf

I reckon I'd go Aftermath/Cold Sweat.

But what do I know :)

Have you asked Tim?

I had that exact same guitar, just with those custom dimarzio's instead.
I can remember i'd wish it had a bit more top end. Thats about it. But those dimarzios were dark imho. Maybe a Holy diver bridge or maybe even a alnico warpig.

Wishign for more brightness and choosing the 2 modern-range-pickups with the least present highs...

out of the bkp range. Those dimarzios were horribly dark.

I'd strongly consider the Holy Diver bridge, paired with the VHII neck (though the calibrated set wouldn't be a bad call either).
In a fairly bright guitar like a Fly, the Holy Diver is simply awesome - enough output for excellent saturation and sustain but still extremely defined and harmonically rich, with pinches being particularly sweet sounding.
The VHII can run the gamut of vintage to modern tones. Here's a short clip of me doing some alternate picking on a high gain tone with the VHII neck:

There is. But Tim can make humbuckers that will fit

Not on the Parker Nitefly, those are the bolt on models different from the thin fly. The Fly's use a custom size, Nitefly used normal pickups that can be easily replaced.

But i also need a neck pickup which will sound really stratish when coil split.....

What about the Rebel Yell set in this guitar ?? Any ideas .....
