Bridge pickup for PRS Custom 22
« on: June 24, 2011, 01:56:20 PM »
Hi guys!

I am looking for a BKP to replace PRS HSF that is now in bridge of my Custom 22. The problem is that it lacks bottom and character, for my taste, and the highs are not smooth. Another problem is that I am completely at a loss with what to choose!

I was thinking of getting a Holydiver, than mule, and the last thing that came to my mind was Alnico Warpig

I play in a hardcore\punk band but I do use different chords (not much of that power chords you find in most punk music), so "string separation" is important. Please, Help! :(

There have been a lot of pickup threads for custom 22/24 lately.

i can't remember how they progressed though but if you use the search you should be able to find them pretty easily as there was quite a few and were very recent

You mention very different pu's. From vintage (Mule) to most brutal (Warpig). I think BKP's are know for the good stringseparation, so whatever you choose, that won't be a problem. My taste in a PRS Custom 22 would be a RiffRaff. Very punchy and can easily do hardcore. It's has more chime then a Mule, but in the mix of a band, that's just a pre.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

The HSF does not have a lot going for it! any BKP will be a giant improvement in tonal quality, I would suggest that you have a listen to the sound clips to get some direction.

Yeah, I know :) I don't use much gain, on the contrary I tend to set gain low and play harder, so I thought that vintage output of mules won't be a problem. And putting in warpig is like some insane idea  8)

Thanks for advice on looking other threads!

After listening to samples I guess I'll stick to Riff Raffs. But more opinions are welcomed!  :)

I think Hunter has some Riffraffs in a PRS. He likes them.
