What BKP single coil neck pick up for my Caparison Horus
« on: June 22, 2011, 10:04:40 PM »
Hi All,

This is my first post and I need advice for my guitar.  I have a Caparison Horus Scarab with a painkiller in the bridge and some single coil Dimarzio in the neck that I am not crazy about.  I play mostly Modern Thrash and technical metal.  I want a single coil neck pickup that can do fluid sweet solos ala Dream Theater and also beautiful, deep cleans.  Let me know what you think would complement the Painkiller.  Thank you for your help!!

Welcome to the forum.

Now, I imagine you are not too keen on a vintage sound for your axe, but if you are, I think Slowhands (hot and middy, like petrucci PUs).
If you want contemporary I´d say the Trilogy Suit neck is the way to go, it´s the go to PU for cont. single coil sound here for a reason far as I know. Modern sound, great for metal, does cleans well.

I do fear though that both cont. Pus might be a bit too bassy for a SC neck, at least to my taste. I´d want more
glassy, cutting and "singing", bit more Malmsteen-esque if you will perhaps. So I personally, with my taste would not counßt the slowhand out.

Best you ask the team too, just give them a quick call.
BKPs in use: 10th set / RY set / Holy Diver b, Emerald n / Crawler bridge, Slowhand mid MQ neck/ Manhattan n
On the sidelines: Stockholm b / Suppermassive n, Mule n, AM set, IT mid

Sinner, no doubt here. It has the fluidity and almost humbucker-y sound you are after. With the 500kΩ pots you'll be running, it'll be toppier than the official clip (which was done with 250kΩs), giving it a sparklier sound that will be especially noticeable when playing clean.

Yes, I forgot the pots...as always Nolly is right. With the pots in mind, sinner makes the most sense.

Hey guys,

Thank you so much for the responses.  I was thinking that maybe the sinner is the way to go and I am sure.  Thank you so much!!
