I recently did a Les Paul with a Holy Diver in the Bridge and a Riff Raff in the Neck.
Whilst the HD has a ceramic magnet and has a nice cutting edge - in a bulky guitar like an LP it kicks nicely, and for a guitar that needs to cover the range that you said then it may be a good answer.
The Riff Raff was very sweet, and allowed that Slash tone to be gotten, and also wasn't too syrupy and bloated sounding.
As Tim said the lower power pickups have more dynamic range to them - you can go from clean to very driven, but the player has to work a little harder and good technique shines more and sloppy playing is revealed. but the tonal clarity is often so worth it.
Sometimes it can come down to how clean you like your clean tones to be.
That may dictate a lower powered pickups to allow those clean tones to ring out and then pile on the gain for driven tones. (this is also where the clarity shows up sloppy playing as your overdriven sounds tend to be more defined)
