Best pickup for doom/sludgecore?

Which humbucker would be the best to use for doom/sludgecore? Like a Bongzilla/Electric Wizard/Grand Magus/Nice Cat type of sound. :P
I've been reading on the forums a bit and my first impression is that the Warpig would be a pretty good choice, would I be correct in that assumption?

Warpigs or Nailbombs or even the Miracle Man.

Black Dog's are quite nice for this, as are Crawlers as well.

Check the Myspace link below. (plug, plug) ;)

While I'm sure you could get on well probably the nailmomb and crawler for what you're after, the best is surely the warpig!

For full on doom action, the Warpig has my vote as well.

That said, in my case I wanted to be able to reach for the doom, but be able to back it off as well, so I went for the Crawlers (just showed up in the post! :D).  But I think that the amp vibe (and your is 'tude) and going to be a big component of doomy sludging.  Plenty of more "classically voiced" pickups that don't get too midrangey will work pretty well, I reckon: Mules, Emeralds, Crawlers.  A more open tone with big piles of amp gain would work fine.

But for the mother of all chug, it would be the Warpig.

I have to disagree with you all. All the bands mention and bands that come to mind usually use 70's Gibsons with original pickups in them. I would go for something low output and really crank the master volume on your amp.

This is obviously dependent on your amp situation. If you do want to go for the low output option you need something like a single channel Marshall head getting pushed with an overdrive pedal.

If however you are using a smaller amp then a higher output pickup would be needed.

That was more or less how I was thinking when I suggested the likes of the Mule or Emerald would work well for doom with plenty o' amp gain.  Gaz Jennings could totally put it down with some Mules in his SG. :)  And the advantage there is that you could easily handle non-doomsludge good ol' rock stuff without blinking.

Still ...if it were just me wanting to specialize in dropping those planet-sized power chords, and I wasn't thinking about other people's tones, I would reach for the Warpig

I agree completely. Horses for courses and all that.

A nice medium output 'bucker through a nice meaty pedal and into a very driven amp... It's the only way... ;)

I would go for a mix of the above advice and suggest a Cold sweat humbucker. Its wound with vintage wire and has a ceramic magnet giving it a massive bottom end, while still retaining clarity.
