Pickups for 8 String Maple/walnut Neckthru
« on: August 20, 2011, 02:05:02 AM »
Hey Guys,

I have an eight string with a maple/walnut neck thu body, with mahogany wings. It sounds huge right now, but I'm looking for some pickups that will help it cut through, and be clearer at the lower range. I've been thinking either a set of aftermaths, or cold sweats. Not really sure which would be better? I play a lot of metal, but i take jazz in school, so it can't have too much treble at all times. I'm defs open to some suggestions on what would work, or if there are some good combo's as well!

Thanks

The Black Dogs are claimed to be especially good for baritones and extended scales; not to forget it's supposed to love mahogany.
I do not own Black Dogs, but I read the site and through the forum, a good bit.

The BD's are certainly too like at in baritones and they will provide nice (jazzy) cleans.

Actually, a maple/walnut neck-thru / mahogany sides is NOT going to sound like a mahogany body. With neck-thru guitars, the neck wood is really the most important factor.

So that being said, some good pickups for a maple/walnut neck would be? and i should clarify, i was thinking along the lines of contemporary pickups. The black dogs seem to be really good, but i especially need something that will tighten up the lower range. a few of the contemporary sets are good for that, so thats where i was putting the focus of my search
