Pickup combo check!
« on: February 07, 2012, 11:46:13 PM »
I am set on a Holy Diver bridge for my Jackson. Alder, maple, and ebony construction. I am hearing that the Diver neck may not be what I want. I was looking at a Cold Sweat for the neck but I was told that is too bright. So VHII or Abraxas for a great lead tone or should I stick with the Diver neck?

What I read the HD-neck is quite bright, maybe I'm wrong. The VHII would be a good choiche.

I use the CS neck with the HD bridge. The CS neck is not too bright, and this combination works very well.

On the other hand, I find the CS neck almost too warm when paired with the CS bridge.

There is quite a contrast between the two, I agree.... that's what I like best about the set.  Especially in a mahogany guitar.  :D

Js90lx, I don't think the CS neck would be too bright in your Jackson, and I don't think it's any brighter than the Abraxas neck.  Can't comment on the VHII or HD neck models.

Actually I would not take a VHII neck with a Holydiver bridge. I had that combination briefly in my Single Cut just to see how the HD was different to the A-Bomb bridge. The VHII seemed too dark in comparison with the HD but works very well with the A-Bomb.

So many options aaarrrgg How would a crawler with mule or yardbird tele or mothers milk single sound ? I like jazz-blues-country-ska. Sounds from Santana to Meryl Travis to Gary Moore"
