So I got my warpigs in on tuesday and seemingly they were working perfectly the push pull coil tap was in order and aside from a few minor adjustments I needed to make it went smoothly. However after testing everything was in order for some time I noticed a crackling noise whenever touched the bridge or strings or any other conductive metal component attached to earth therefore I must presume that at some point the earth is attached to the live section of the circuitry?
Confirmation of this would be grand.
A few other things I wished to ask to try and get to the bottom of any problems or mistakes I may have created as it is my first time working with 4 conductor wired pickups and with this as an example:
http://www.bareknucklepickups.co.uk/main/downloads/schematics/general/humbuckers/2_hum_1vol_push_pull_coilsplit_tone_3_way_switch.pdfOn this diagram (which I did not work off as I'm using a 3 way toggle not a lever switch) the green and white wires from the pup are shown as wired directly into the push pull pot. but as my guitar has the switch in a cavity towards the top of the body and the tone, volume and jack input in a cavity at the bottom and on opposite sides of body I opted to solder them together inside the switch cavity and also solder a long wire from this connection down into the tone pot and then insulate the bare connection. Should I just have stripped the wire down and lead it directly into the tone pot or is my way ok too? I've seen people do similar things before so thought it would be ok.
I also soldered black and bare of both pups onto the earth section of the switch I have and then like with the green and white lead a wire from here to the earthing on the volume pot (leading to bridge) the capacitor is soldered to the casing of the tone pot and again the earth wire from the tone is soldered to the tone pot casing with a wire leading from here to the back of the volume pot.
Does all this add up? Have a created an earthing loops somewhere or something worse? As I said the pups appear to work fine and sound great no drops in volume or anything whilst playing its just the excessive noise and the crackling.
I have opted to completely rewire and replace all parts (only the jack wasn't new) to try and get to the bottom of this but id like to avoid making the same mistake again if I've just ballsed it up somewhere.
Thanks in advance for any help!
