Short Leg Pups in a les paul?

Just a quick question, If i have some short leg pickups, 50mm spacing, will they fit into a Les Paul okay? I assume that some foam beneath the pickups is all that's needed?

I'm probably going to make a trip to Croydon and get Jon (feline) to fit the pickups but thought i'd double check first.

You shouldn't need foam under the pickups - the pickup itself will be sitting in exactly the same position relative to the mounting ring and the pickup cavity.  The only difference is the length of the legs!

I can't see any need to ever use long-leg humbuckers, except maybe on a V or SG with scratchplate-mounted pickups.

thanks for the responses guys, i'll try and get Jon to take a photo so i can post a belated NGD too, getting a Zebra painkiller bridge / Nickel CS neck mounted into my Signature LP

Even then it does not make sense to me. The only situation where it matters is if you want to direct mount the pickups to the guitar body and it has deep holes where the legs are.

When in doubt one can make ordering easy with these options:

- short legs
- 53mm spacing for bridge position
- 4 conductor

You need long leg pickups in scratchplate mounted Vs and SGs like Phil says.  You need the pickup to "stick out" from the pickguard quite a long way, hence you need the long legs  ;)

Yeah, especially for the bridge pickup.  That said, my old Edwards V had a short-leg JB in the bridge position, but they'd used extra-short springs to compensate.  :)
