Opinions on Epiphone Les Paul Prophecy EX?
« on: October 23, 2011, 04:54:27 PM »
I've been looking at new Les Pauls recently and discovered one which looks awesome, it was the Limited Edition Les Paul Midnight Ebony with EMGs. Neck Profile, Body Wood, 12" Radius, 22 Frets are pretty much Les Paul Standard. But then I found another guitar today (the one in the title) and I love the sound of it. All Mahogany w/ Quilted maple Top, Ebony fretboard, 24 Frets (Yes 24, which is strange for Epiphone Les Pauls), Grover Tuners, Straplocks; and even better, a 14" radius and EMG pickups. The thing that I'm really looking forward to though is that it uses a speed taper neck rather than slim taper. This is meant to be more like a Jackson/Ibanez, and its also Satin finished so feels very fast  :D

All this for under £500. The reviews seem fantastic too. Just wondered what you lot thought? :)

That's what I thought. All it will need is a good fret job, trussrod and intonation setup, and it'll prob play spectacularly

I already have some in my other Les Paul, and I'm selling my other set (brand new on Seconds Out). I might go for something a little bit more Mid heavy in this guitar :)

The skinny neck puts me off, but apart from that I think they look like very cool guitars.   The overall look is good and I like the simplified control arrangement.

As "updates" of standard Gibson designs, I think they're more successful than most recent Gibson USA efforts.
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM

Aftermaths?

Yh I was thinking that. But every clip I hear, I tend not to like the sound. It just sounds a lil dry to my ear. I'm looking for something to play Drop C Bands like Bullet, All That Remains, Asking Alexandria, etc. I don't necessarily want a pickup that's going to sound like everything I play is a breakdown tho. I've found the Aftermaths, being so tight, seem to sound a tad bit like that

True, they sound quite dry. Maybe Nailbombs, ceramics.
