Newbie seeking advice
« on: November 06, 2011, 09:44:36 AM »
Greetings from Singapore :P

I had decided to splurge on a new 2nd hand guitar, and might be considering changing the pickups. I read up and it seems BKP is one of the better pickup brands, so i came here for some advice.

Guitar
I am eyeing the PRS SE Paul Allender (older version), with the specs found here
http://www.prsguitars.com/allender/specs.php
The pickups are passive unlike the description since its the older version.
**i had not actually bought the guitar yet, so i am not sure whether the pickup needs to be changed.

Amplifier
Using Sounddrive SG-612R. Solid state amp with 2 channels. This might not be well known depending on location.
Specs --> http://www.iitp.net/co/sounddrive/GC03061935/CA03062067/Sound_Drive_Guitar_Amplifier.html

Influences
I want this guitar to be very versatile. I hope it can handle from great cleans, to allman brothers (jessica), and metal (most played).
For distortion i am looking for ensiferumish to slayerish
Example (ensiferum)

I read this forum and i thought that people here are generally helpful. Please don't mind the details because I am not well versed in terms of the gears.

Looking forward to the replies, TIA! :D

In this case, definitely that 1000$ Duncan set with pure silver wire and 24h concierge service...

You might want to look at upgrading your amp before getting into replacement pickups. I'm not sure that amp will give you the sounds you're looking for even with a set of Knuckles.
PRS Bernie Marsden Abraxas set
PRS S2 Singlecut RY's
JV Strat  IT Bridge
Gibson SG JB bridge
Fender Mex Tele Thinline TV Jones Classics
Fender Bassbreaker 15
Yamaha THR 100 Dual
Quilter Aviator Cub

+1. For the pickups alnico or ceramic Nailbombs. The ceramic have less depth, but are tighter, though I think the A-Bombs are quite tight already.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.
