Marshall YJM100 Advice
« on: November 08, 2011, 02:27:14 PM »
Hey guys so UPS came to collect my broken Marshall YJM100 and I will be receiving my new one tomorrow! Finally lol!

Nothing worse than having an awsome new amp that wont work lol.

When my Marshall YJM initially broke, I had the channels jumpered together (as is the case with plexi's) both channel volumes at 10 and the attenuation about 1/4 power.. so for arguments sake maybe about 25 watts, but in real terms the amp was cooking as much as it could lol!

It broke when i had my Ibanez Jemini overdrive pedal plugged into the front of the amp at full level and full gain.

My question is...if I have the plexi on full (ie at 10) and I play my les paul and overdrive pedal all at full tilt into the amp..will it damage the inputs?

I am just wondering now as when the amp broke, it was like the top left input became desensitised, ie all the treble and presense seemed to dissapear and it sounded like the amp was very muffled?

Any opinions? It seems a bit daft to me if the amp can be damaged by too much input if that makes sense?

Thanks in advance

Rising!

I doubt you could make an amp go into meltdown by throwing an overdrive pedal in front.
I have to ask : you matched the impedance to the cab correctly?

Of course the amp can be damaged by too much input. But nothing a 9v battery can do. Even if you had 100 pedals, the only thing which would happen, would be that you lose tone. Id say it looks like an OHM overload, or u may have not connected the speakers. Did you use good quality leads? I heard a story of a guy using cheap ones, and if that signal cuts for a second, ur amp will react as if u have no cab connected. If neither of the above apply, it may have just something dodgy in the amp :/

Thats good..it was just a hairbrained idea.

It did seem a bit crazy that I couldn't overload the front end.

Yeah, the amp was connected properly with a very good cable. Been fine on my AFD at 8 ohms so no problems.

I think it was just the amp being knackered. When I kicked the booster in, the noise gate comes in automatically as it should but it was reducing the volume by at least 50% lol.

If I took out the noise gate the volume went back to where it should be and the treble came back in. When the booster was kicked off...the presence and treble disappeared againi and the amp went all mushy.

Ah well at least I have a new one tomorrow! and a new cab on the way!!
