The problem with modern cars is that they are so, err, modern that the mechanic hobbyist can't simply pick up a reference book and fix them that easily.
I think I hate being indecisive.

sorry for your misfortune but welcome to the club. i bought the parents in law's mercedes with just 70k on the clock.
a diesel  at that.sometimes wouldn't start when warm, hell to diagnose but was the fuel pump in the tank which is
split in two to stop swishing sounds!1250€.very hard repair too.
windscreen wiper motor replaced 600€ .won't bore you with the other things but even german engineering isn't to be trusted.
go jap, my nissan pick up doesn't do broke.
