Miracle man for shred? Basswood Q
« on: December 24, 2011, 12:44:49 AM »
Hey, I recently got an Ibanez RG 1527 (Basswood body, Maple/Wenge Neck and Rosewood Fingerboard) so its standard Ibanez woods. The stock pickups are garbage so I'm looking to change them.

I've done a lot of research on pickups and everyone says the Miracle Man is the best metal pickup for basswood. What is it like for Vai/Gilbert tones?

I'm looking for a bridge pickup that gives this kind of warm tone but still very articulate and sharp like in this video:

First of all, it is a great pickup for shred! Very aggressive, lots of harmonics, cutting top end. I think it sounds mostly like George Lynch/Dokken, Megadeth/Slayer, Zakk Wylde. I don't know Gilberts tone, but Vai's more modern sounds I'd put more in the Nailbomb ballpark. Joe Satriani as well.

So you could go with the MM for the aggressive stance or the Nailbomb for the more "refined", classy sounds.
Current BKPs: Miracle Man, Nailbomb, Juggernaut, VHII
Past BKPS: Holy Diver, Trilogy Suite, Sinner, Black Dog

VHII
that's most likely a dimarzio paf pro in that video, by the way
nailbomb would be great too
Riff Raff, Mules, Black Dog, VHII's, Cold Sweat

Thanks for the replies guys!!!!

Miracle Man doesn't sound like the lead tone I'm looking for. My C-1 custom is tonally very close to my 1527 and that has an Alnico Nailbomb bridge in it. It nails the Satriani tones but it is to sharp/bright for the warm Vai/Michael Angelo Batio tone I'm looking for.
