Hello all,
I have a guitar which is fitted with standard humbuckers now. To be honest, I have been playing long enough to have learned that my playing style is mostly clean, and the most overdrive I usually play is light amp breakup. That's just the sounds that I find that I like. I also have learned that I prefer the sound of single coils.
I'm not happy with the pickups I have in this guitar. I've already changed them once, from Seymour Duncans to a set of Haussel custom made Classic neck & Perl bridge. They are fine pickups, but I'm looking for a different sound. I have been for several months now researching and considering a humbucker-sized P90 pickup replacement. I have a set of BKP "Mule" in a guitar, and they sound great. Their split-coil sound is something I like in this guitar. I would probably like the Haussel pickups in a split coil setup, but the guitar I have them in now does not have that wiring. (Yet!)
I purchased a set of TV Jones "Super'Tron" pickups for another guitar, and I am very unhappy with them. I wasn't sure if I'd like them, but I bought them to see if I would. They are too 'hot' for my style of playing and my amp. I guess I just like a clean, vintage output type pickup.
The guitar I am considering these pickups for is a solid body. It resembles a Vox SC-33 in many ways, but is handmade in Tennessee, USA by an old man and not a Vox. It has a one-piece cherry body, and a one-piece Indian Rosewood neck. It is a very resonant guitar.
Knowing the woods used, and that it is a solidbody, and the kind of music style that I play, I would like to get some recommendations here. I have looked at the BKP "Manhattan" P90 style pickup, and think it may be my best option. The Mississippi Queen, while a fine pickup, may be too 'hot' since I seem to like vintage output style pickups more.
Any thoughts?
Thanks for your time.
