I think a thinline archtop could be a happy mix of thinline and jazzbox.

This Peerless is a fully hollow solid maple top thinline

I assume the solid maple top means it would be carved rather than pressed but I'm not sure.  But they do sound very deep and jazzy, at least when unplugged

This guy plays one

I go to a Jazz guitar club sometimes and nearly all the players play full on jazz boxes, except for a few Telecaster players!

Just putting out a shameless plug here.

I have beauty of a Gretsch White Penguin for sale. Technically just as hollow as a 335 and loaded with a set of fat and full sounding Dynasonics. It will cost you more than a grand though.

Sorry, I'm not a massive fan of Gretsch, they don't have that visual appeal for me!

Apologies for leaving this thread for a while-- I had to go and work in Korea on Tuesday, and i'm still here... and have next to no free time, it's been proper mental! I shall have a look at all the suggestions after I return on Thursday :) Thanks!

They make quite nice hollow/semi-hollow guitars in Korea. Get you a nice one there.  :)

I intend to have a look round the musical instrument area here... if I get a chance!! It's been solid work work work here, but I'd like to have a look round-- I know where the shops are, it's just trying to make it there whilst they are open :)

Indeed, nearly all reasonably priced archtops are made in Korea. Good chance music stores there are well stocked with them.

The Penguin is sold by the way. And there's a 6120-SSLVO coming my way.

Hmmm, I've always fancied a 6120. I had a 5120 for a while but didn't keep it. The '6' series I have tried though have all been top top notch.

What is SSLVO an abbreviation for? Setzer Signature Limited Vintage Orange?
I think I hate being indecisive.
