Hello Bareknuckle Pickups Forums Peoples Members, I am to be ordering an RGD2127z soon and I don't intend to keep the stock Ibanez pickups in for very long.
So, I was hoping you might be able to help me narrow down my choices. Here is sort of an explanation (albeit a terribly confusing one) of the sort of tone I am looking for in both Rhythm and Lead positions.
For rhythm, I don't necessarily want absurdly tight bass, I would prefer to have huge, sustaining chords ringing out of apocalyptic riffs. However, I want to have a certain clarity for complex distorted chords. I still want every note to be there. Opeth and Dream Theater are huge influences on the sound I want.
For Leads, again the same two bands are major influences. I love the amazing soaring leads Petrucci gets for solos on tracks like The Best of Times. I also adore Opeths tone when they get a little more bluesy. That sort of warm and smooth tone with a noticeable sort of rough break up on it.
These two youtube tracks (one a cover!) show the sort of tone I am going for. The second one would be a little more dirty though. Basically imagine that with a tubescreamer boosting it.

I've so far been looking at the Aftermath and Nailbomb. Not sure if that's a good idea though.
