Hss ash Musicman choice
« on: February 23, 2012, 11:51:10 AM »
Hi all, I've recently picked up a Musicman axis sport and the pickups just don't have it. I'm looking for a low-ish output with more of a growl than a grind if you get me. This would be used in a covers band doing ZZ top, Deep purple and Hendrix type of stuff. I was looking at the VHII with Irish Tours but other more educated opinions would be most welcome

From the descriptions the Black Dog appears more growly than the VHII but the VHII fits the bands you mentioned better.

I have no experience with the BKP single coils but Irish Tours are universally acclaimed as being very versatile.

Cheers Stephan

VHII is a superb rockpickup even in ash bolt-on guitar. Wicked tones, very dynamic, cleans up great etc. Growling is more related to the Abraxas and the Crawler.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.
