Mules bridge w/ RR or VHII neck?
« on: February 25, 2012, 11:55:21 PM »
Hello people!

I'm having my neck-thru body LP a re-top job for a more figured maple and will also change the pickups...

I was planning the A5 mules, but as BKP don't customize anymore their pickups, I'm thinking in getting the A4 Mule on bridge, but wanted a less bassy tone on the neck...

Basically I want my neck pickup to sound more or less alike the bridge pickup, but clearer...

So, looking at the pickups details on the website I thought the Riff Raff or VHII on the neck could work, any thoughts on that???

Riff raff or VHII neck to match a Mule bridge?

They are a little hotter pickups than mule, maybe don't match so well. Also, A5 is bassier than A4.

I'd go for SM A2 in the neck with Mule A4 bridge.

SM A2 makes me think in Slash solo tone, that it's not really what I want... Think it's too bassy

The neckpickups are different birds. I think a RiffRaff-neck goes well wit a Mule.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

I would go RiffRaff the A5 will cut through better than an A2 or A4, whilst I like the Mule bridge I don't like the neck, much prefer the RR or VHII.

slash tones aren't bassy at all

the neck mule isn't bassy as well

maybe you want a MQ
Riff Raff, Mules, Black Dog, VHII's, Cold Sweat

While I wouldn't describe the Mule neck as bassy, I think it does sound quite "soft" compared to a typical A5 pickup, so maybe doesn't cut though as well (though I haven't tried the Riff Raff or VHII.)

I have a Mule-neck and it's not really a cutting pickup.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

It's true that the AII Stormy Monday neck is "clear" sounding, it's certainly not fat... but it's clear in a soft sort of way, I wouldn't say it really cuts through.

The Riff Raff neck is the brightest, by all accounts, and I don't see why it shouldn't match well enough with the Mule bridge.

BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM
