500k Volume + 250k Tone for 2 Aftermaths. Is this a problem?
« on: March 09, 2012, 08:06:41 AM »
I just had 2 Aftermath humbuckers installed in my BC Rich Beast. The guitar came stock with a 500k volume and a 250k tone pot. I believe both pots are CTS.

All the wiring diagrams on this site recommend 500k pots for volume and tone. What effect will the 250k tone pot have on my sound? Will a 500k tone pot make a big difference?

I don't ever adjust the tone pot, I keep it cranked all the time.

The 250k tone pot will work. A 500k tone pot may be a tiny bit brighter. The higher value is recommendable because if you turn it down to 9, it's basically a 250k pot - in a guitar circuit the tone pot is wired as a variable resistor, not as voltage divider like volume pots.

I would try the pickups with the existing pots first. You can always replace the pots later.
