« on: October 02, 2009, 10:00:49 PM »
Which Bare Knuckle pickup will be best suited for a classic les paul sound?
As i mentioned in the topic, I'm realy interested in achieving a sound similar to Paul Kossoff's sound. especially the sound he gets at this live performence:

My instincts suggest The Mule- or the PG Blues set which has a mule as it's bridge pickup

The actual guitar sound is quite clean, so I would stick with the low power pickps, Stormy Monday's or PG Blues will get this sound.  My A5 Mule/A4 Stormy Monday can also get it.  The overall sound is from running the amps hard.  I have stood in front of Paul Kossoff's stack when he was playing at St Georges Hall in Bradford in the early 70's (they used to have side stage tickets in those days), and can tell you that he used the amp a lot for his sounds, he would change the volume when he was playing (holding long notes helps with that).
So many pickups, so little time

you are a lucky man :)
thanks alot for your post!

I was in the opinion a"regular" IV mule will get the sound, but as i have no experience with a BK Humbucker pickups
I think i'll stuck with your opinion and go with the SM. (sometimes i wonder if the SM called after Mike Bloomfield's song)

The Sm has an alnico 2 magnet - so think softer and more buttery
Nice pickup though
