2nd pickup for Ibanez RG
« on: March 27, 2012, 05:43:56 PM »
Hello (my first post)

I have just recently brought a BKP MM which is an amazing pickup, and since I have gone the BK route I want my other guitar to have one but can't decide which one?

Both of my guitars are Ibanez RG's (basswood), and I play 80's hard rock through to thrash and pretty much always at standard tuning, I use VHT (fryette) amps and axe fx.

I suppose I want something abit different from the MM just to have contrast and comparing to the MM I want my next pickup to have abit less bass and abit more mid range, a more of a crunchy / lead pickup but with similar output.
I'm kinda thinking A-bomb or C-bomb, or possibly Holy Diver (from memory I don't think I've ever had an alnico pickup) or possibly vintage hot pickup but are these all less output?

Thanks

Nailbombs would serve your styles. They sit between the Cold Sweat and the MM, specially the ceramic version.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

the aftermath would do what you are asking.

I have two RGS one with the MM the other with the AM.

The AM has less bass, more midrange and is roughly the same output but it seems like more because of how much the midrange is pushing the amp.

I say Holydiver imo. Just bought one for my basswood guitar which should arrive by friday for the same kind of tones your going after and i stay in standard tuning as well.

There is a full review on the HD. Saves me a lot of typing lol.

That description fits the Aftermath. My guess is that a C-Bomb would not be that much different from the Miracle Man and an A-Bomb would not have the strong midrange you are looking for. Holydiver would have the midrange but not the output although it is not so much less.

Cheers Stephan

Thanks for the responses and the great review of the Holy Diver, I think I may be leaning more towards the Holy Diver.
I thought (wrongly?) the Aftermath was a more of an agressive tone better suited to very heavy stuff, is it good at hard rock and fluid lead tones?

Cheers

Well the aftermath does have a more aggressive tone, is tighter and faster response in the lows and is more articulate and cutting imo.

But the Holydiver shares it's mid range crunch. It's just a much more fluid, thicker, organic and sweet top end sounding pickup.
