I have a cheapy Fender DG-11 (or soummat like that) acoustic which is finished in black.
I liked the black finish when i first got it some 5 or 6 years ago but now it depresses me and looks a bit glum, now my playing has progressed the neck feels like it has half an inch of thick delux gloss on it, and I also wonder if stripping the paint off would give a bit more brightness and detail to the tone of the guitar, even after being fitted with good quality fresh new strings etc.
Its plays ok really for a cheapy acoustic, its certainly a good loud broad sound but sometimes I would like it to have a bit more "sparkle" .
At the moment i can't afford a new acoustic which is why I am thinking off tinkering with mine.
So, to anybody who knows, how (if you can without loads of specialist tools/chemicals) strip the finish off an acoustic ?
Will common paint srippper bring it off ?
Also, would I reap much benefit from doing this tone wise, I'm not bothered if it looks a state as its pretty battered and not worth much + I'm really fed up of playing on a black guitar !!!!
