I was recently watching an interview with Neil Zaza, and he said regarding his pickup choice, him and Seymour Duncan (don't know if it was him or just staff), tried out every single pickup combo and he ended up going for a Alnico II Custom Custom in the Bridge, and an Alnico V '59 in the neck. Now I've just come across another website stating this:

Alnico 2 magnets give a warmer tone and low end response with smooth, singing highs. Many builders use them in the bridge pickups of solidbodies.
Alnico 5 produces a brighter tone with a tighter low end and stinging highs. They're great for neck position pickups, to help keep the tone clear without getting muddy.

Now assuming I'm playing that kind of melodic instrumental style of music, what are peoples opinions on combining an Alnico II bridge with an Alnico V neck? For me it seems quite interesting, but just thought I'd run it by every one first.

Cheers, Mike

As long as the powers are balanced I see no problem in it but based on Tim's descriptions of the different magnets, I think I'd just use AIV instead of AII to get the best of both worlds.
BKP owned:

Bridge - Emerald; Cold Sweat; Crawler; A-Bomb; Holydiver; Miracle Man; Sinner; Trilogy Suite

Neck - Emerald; Cold Sweat; Crawler; Holydiver; Sinner; Trilogy Suite

Yh Tim messaged me back earlier saying that he unfortunately doesn't do higher powered Alnico IIs. Shame really. He told me that the Abraxas is closest, but for me, it lacks that aggresive top end I'm after, with the added benefits of the Alnico II magnet. I'll have to try Bulldog Pickups to make me one. But still gonna get a Riff Raff from BKP as that's apparantly like the '59 :)
