Wiring 4 conductor as 2 conductor
« on: May 18, 2012, 07:33:43 AM »
Hiya
If you ordered 4 conductor wiring but just want to put them in a guitar with standard 1 VOL, 1 TONE and a 3 way toggle can this be done with 4 conductor wiring?
Initially I bought the pick ups to go in a guitar which would coil tap but have changed my mind.

Cheers
Pete

yes this is nice and easy.

You just connect the red (hot wire) to the pickup selector if you have one and the pot tab if you dont.

You then keep the green & white wires taped off and isolated (i usually use a bit of electrical tape to hold these back against the main cabling as i find it keeps it tidier.

The black & bare wires then get soldered to the back of the pot.

I hope this helps

My wordy.... your right.. that sounds super easy!!! :)

I have a Blackat guitar which is new from a Polish luithier who has just started using BKP in his guitars.. I have a prototype model that has active Seymour Duncans in...

So I'll just remove those pickups and solder the BKP basically where the SD came off the 3 selector switch yeah?

Excellent... As Dr Pepper said... Whats the worst that could happen?! :)

Thank

Yep its as simple as that.

Just make sure you use the colours i detailed in the first post. If you copy the SD ones you'll end up with some funky stuff going on

Sorry dude... last thing... cause they were actives coming out of the guitar there is a red and black wire going to the battery box and one black wire from the jack... does that black or red wire that went to the battery box need to be redirected anywhere? :)

Nah those are just the +/- wires for the battery you can just disconnect them completely.

Also with it being actives you will need to replace the pots too as they will most likely have had 25k pots and you need 500k
