NAD (Laney)

Hiya, I picked up this Laney over the weekend.I wanted something to pop under the PC desk for some noodling and it fits the bill perfectly. It's an AOR ProTube 30 apparantly (6v6) with a Fane speaker. It's got fantastic cleans and grit tones, gonna have to stick a dirt box infront though as the gain is really fizzy and flabby. Anyway, I thought it was a bit of a bargain. The seller is an amp tech so it's been looked over and cleaned up on the inside. It's looks practically mint on the outide.I'll take a couple of pics when I get home but for now here's a couple of inside shots the seller took.

It could probably do with some new power tubes as they look like the original ones but I can't see any trim pot to bias it?

Nice one. I've still got my Pro Tube 50 from 1983 or so - a "pre-AOR" Protube, a master volume 50W. Did hundreds of gigs with it, but it would need a bit of an overhaul before switching on again nowadays, I haven't powered it up for a good 5 years or so (it's never had any valves replaced or anything).

I very nearly bought an AOR 30W a couple of years later, but I decided to pass on it. First because it was somewhat more complicated to operate than my single channel MV (:lol:), and second because it had loads more gain than I needed. If I could have afforded it as a "practice" amp for using at home I would have gone for it - it made some very nice sounds, just not the ones I needed for gigs.

If I didn't have my modern Laney CUB12 to do the jobs I want, I'd probably have been wondering about finding an old AOR 30.

If it's fizzy and flabby, maybe an OD or distortion wouldn't help, I'd look more towards an EQ pedal.

haha yea, the pics are rather large!Can't edit much from my iphone d'oh. Yea, an EQ might be a good idea.Like I said, the clean and grit tones without the AOR bit on are brilliant, straight up vintage tones as good as any amp I've played(though I do tend to like 6v6 for that). Bet it's got good modding potential.
