I don't know why they can't just leave routing the tremolo spring cavity until later so you can still specify it as a hardtail if you want. They do other routing later, eg pickup cavities, so why not the bridge too?

The do make hardtail Strat bodies, but it's true that they make far more with tremolo cavities.

I suppose the "problem" is that if you wanted a trem you'd end up with a large, unpainted hole in the back of the guitar, which many people wouldn't like - everyone uses a scratchplate, but it's quite common not to bother with a backplate.

And I think the bottom line is, most people prefer a Strat with a trem (although I'm a hardtail man myself).  I'm sure they base their production on what actually sells.

Very nice. Lovely grain, buy it!

I was having a look yesterday, I've suddenly got gas for a new Telecaster and was thinking something like this:-

http://www.warmoth.com/Showcase/ShowcaseItem.aspx?i=PT2654&Body=2&Path=Body

I already have a traditional Tele which like any traditional Tele can be a pig to play so I'm thinking H H config with a Stormy Monday neck (not sure what bridge) Pao Ferro 1 piece neck with a compound radius and 59 roundback profile and SS frets.

I suppose I could just get an LP type but I'm thinking the Tele style with bolt on neck would be a bit more unique and have a little more snap in the sound. The other option would be a traditional tele bridge and a piledriver.

There are too many options though and I don't know what I want, I played a Suhr Classic T yesterday with P90's and that was awesome, a P90 Warmoth Tele would be great.

That's one beautiful Tele, get it! Tele's seem to go so well with rich wood finishes like that. Two humbuckers would be awesome, by the way. P90s are great too, though, so that's a tough choice. That with a Pau Ferro neck would look great, and it would add some bite to the mahogany's warmth. Go for it!  :D

It looks great, but it always makes me cry a bit when I see a really nice Strat body on the Warmoth showcase, then look at the bottom of the description and it says "Your choice of tremolo."

I don't know why they can't just leave routing the tremolo spring cavity until later so you can still specify it as a hardtail if you want. They do other routing later, eg pickup cavities, so why not the bridge too?

Yeah I've thought the same thing. In fact I would have this Strat as a hardtail if I could, but it's not a big deal because the Wilkinsons are so stable. Philly makes a good point though, the trem cavity wouldn't be painted and I would hate that if I got a trem because I like to leave the back cavity open

Lovely looking top but it would do well without the stark contrast of the binding IMHO
